The infantry were the main bulk of the Wehrmacht. Germany's Blitzkrieg tactics swept across Poland and the Low Countries, culminating in the seizure of France, before the launch of the offensive on the Soviet Union, whose forces were driven back to Moscow as the Wehrmacht ploughed on with devastating effect.
The German Infantry were martially motivated, disciplined, highly trained and equipped with quality weaponry, as was the typical German infantryman, who would have been trained to be a one man fighting force if isolated behind enemy lines if need be.
