Bolt Action: British and Inter-Allied Commandos

Commando units were set up in numerous ways. Because of their lack of command structure as such, initiative and teamwork were actively encouraged. So some units were small hit-and-run forces, while others could be considered as a full blown assault division. Each Commando was expertly trained in weapons, both firearms and knives, trained in lethal unarmed combat, Commandos were feared and respected by all their foes.
The Commandos were formed in 1940 by executive order from the British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, with the main objective of causing disruption, chaos and terror to the German armed forces after the humiliating retreat from Dunkirk by the British Expeditionary Force. All volunteers to a man, they recruited from all parts of the armed services and all walks of life. The Inter-Allied Commando regiment included troops from allied nations such as Belgium, Poland, Holland and Scandinavia.
The Commandos fought numerous battles across Europe and Africa during the Second World War, but one operation earned them not only their reputation, but also the ire of Hitler himself that ordered the infamous edict that no Commando would be taken as a prisoner of war, but instead executed upon capture. The reason? Operation Chariot: otherwise known as the greatest raid of all time, the successful assault on the submarine pens at St Nazaire.
